Gypsum is actually widely mined and used as fertilizer and is main part in the different forms of plaster, drywall, blackboards and sidewalk chalk.
Gypsum is also moderately water-soluble but is less soluble in higher temperatures.
Selenite is simply a translucent crystallization of gypsum.
Selenite doesn’t actually have any significant amount of selenium, but both selenite and selenium were named for the ancient Greek word for the moon.
