Prasiolite is a type of quartz, and is in the family of amethyst since amethysts are a type of quartz.
Prasiolite is sometimes called Green Amethyst.
Real Prasiolites naturally occurs near stable purple amethyst deposits but is quite a rare find. The “prasiolites” that are common to find are normally heat-treated or irradiated purple amethysts as natural Prasiolites are harder to come by.
