Moonstone is a sodium potassium aluminum silicate of the feldspar group. It is composed of two feldspar minerals, orthoclase and albite.
It looks very pearly and opalescent and is also called hectoliter.
Most of Moonstone comes from India, Madagascar and Sri Lanka, however there are also other deposits in the world. The historically most valuable, transparent moonstones with strong blue sheens came from Myanmar. Today, most commercial Moonstones come from Sri Lanka.
