Jadeite is a tough and dense mineral in the clinopyroxene family. It’s mostly found in green and white.
It is only formed in zones where rocks undergo metamorphism at high pressure but relatively low temperature.
It is typically apple-green to emerald-green, less commonly white or white with spots of green.
While Nephrite has an “oily” luster, Jadeite has a vitreous (or glass-like) luster, making it easier to distinguish one from the other.
Fun fact: Jadeite is moderately easy to fuse with a propane flame and gives a yellow flame color!
