Fuchsite is also known as chrome mica. It is a chromium-rich variety of Muscovite and belongs to the mica group of phyllosilicate minerals (sheet-like structured minerals). Verdite is a type of metamorphic rock made mostly of an impure, and often multicolored, variety of fuchsite. Fuchsite crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system and its most common color is pale green to emerald green, depending on the amount of chromium substitution for aluminum. Fuchsite fluoresces lime green under long wave UV light and its radioactivity is due to its potassium content, but it is barely detectable.
