Jasper is an aggregate of micro granular quartz and/or chalcedony. An opaque rock of any color stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash.

Bloodstone Jasper is a mineral aggregate heliotrope, also known as Bloodstone or ematille. The “classic” bloodstone is opaque green jasper with red hematite inclusions which look like blood, hence the name.

Bloodstone Jasper has been found in Western Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and many other locations.

Note: There is a discussion about Bloodstone and Dragon Blood Stone/Jasper being different but both can be found in some of the locations listed above and is both formed of green opaque jasper and red hematite. So we believe it is the same thing.

Dragon Stone is NOT Dragon’s Blood Jasper/Bloodstone Jasper/Heliotrope.

As far as we have found, Dragon Blood Stone is Piemontite and Epidote. The names have been used interchangeably and most of the Dragon’s Blood Jasper/Bloodstone Jasper out there is marketed as Dragon Blood Stone and it is misleading.

To learn more about Dragon Blood Stone (Piemontite with Epidote), please read our page on Dragon Stone.
