Black Kyanite is typically a blue aluminosilicate mineral found in aluminum-rich metamorphic pegmatites and sedimentary rock. Kyanite presence in metamorphic rocks generally indicates metamorphism deep in the earth’s crust.
Kyanite is also known as disthene or cyanite. Normally forms in sprays of bladed crystals, and the euhedral, or well-shaped, crystals are very uncommon.
Black Kyanite is normally from the mine in Ribeirão da Folha, Minas Novas, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Note: There is some discussion regarding Black Kyanite actually being Kyanite and possibly being graphite or some amphibole type. We cannot find anything to confirm anything at this point.
